Rygor Inspires Future Automotive Talent During School Careers Week

Rygor x Wren School

As part of Careers Week, Rygor recently visited The Wren School in Reading to speak with Year 7 students about careers and opportunities within the automotive industry.

For many students, this was one of their first chances to explore potential career paths. The session focused on opening their eyes to the wide range of roles available within the automotive sector.

Historically, the industry has been associated with technicians and mechanics and often perceived as male dominated. Sessions like this help broaden awareness of the many career opportunities available, from sales and logistics to customer service, marketing, finance, technology, and leadership roles.

The students were highly engaged throughout the session, asking thoughtful questions about different roles, the skills needed to succeed, and the various pathways into the industry. The talk also highlighted alternative routes such as apprenticeships and vocational learning, demonstrating how hands-on experience can provide a powerful pathway into a rewarding career.

Engaging with students at this stage is incredibly important. By helping young people understand the range of opportunities available, we can encourage them to explore industries they may not have previously considered and support them in making informed decisions about their futures.

Alison Ainscough from The Wren School said:

“At The Wren School in Reading, we celebrate National Careers Week by inviting organisations to speak with our students and highlight the wide range of careers available within their industries. The aim is to broaden students’ awareness of opportunities they may not have previously considered and inspire their future ambitions.

Emily from Rygor delivered a fantastic assembly, sharing the variety of roles within the automotive industry and discussing the importance of challenging stereotypes, particularly encouraging more women to join the sector. Our Year 7 students were highly engaged and asked some excellent questions. We would love to welcome her back again in the future.”

Speaking about the session, Emily Walsh, People & Culture Executive at Rygor, said:

“When I was at school, I didn’t realise the breadth of opportunities the automotive industry could offer, particularly as a female. Once you understand the range of roles and departments available, combined with the chance to work with exciting brands, you realise just how many possibilities there are. It’s important that young people are aware of these opportunities so they can make informed decisions about their future.”

At Rygor, we are passionate about supporting the development of future talent. Through partnerships with educational institutions and initiatives such as our Career

Hub and Women in Automotive Journal, we are committed to inspiring the next generation and demonstrating that the automotive industry offers dynamic, rewarding careers for people with a wide range of interests and skills.

A huge thank you to The Wren School for inviting us to take part in Careers Week, and to the students for their enthusiasm, curiosity, and brilliant questions.
